Obituary for Josef Schneider

Josef Schneider
Josef Schneider (1919 – 2017)
With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing in hospital of Josef Schneider on Monday, January 23, 2017 in his 98th year. Devoted husband of more than 71 years to Eva Schneider (2014) and much loved Godfather of Rosemary (John) Birka. Predeceased by parents, Anton and Anna Schneider and brothers, Wendelin (1997) and Anton (1958). His generosity, infectious smile and giggle will always be remembered by Stephanie (Mike), Drew (Diana) and his little buddies Birkley and Emily who he adored. Born in Liget, Hungary, April 8, 1919, he married Eva in November 1943 and came to Canada in 1953. Josef & Eva grew tobacco for a number of years and then moved to Tillsonburg where Josef was a school crossing guard for 15 years. He always had a candy in his pocket and a smile for his little friends. Joe and Eva moved to Brantford in 2013 to be closer to Rosemary and her family. Nothing gave Pheter more joy than watching cartoons with his Saturday visitor, Birkley and watching him make the lift chair go up and down. He called Emily Kodel’s beautiful little doll. They made his face light up. Family and friends will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg on Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 131 Rolph Street, Tillsonburg at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2017. Interment in Tillsonburg Cemetery. Memorial donations to Heart & Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated.
