Condolence: Dear Kara and Kristen,
I was still a young girl when I first met your Mom as your Dad's girlfriend, I looked at her with complete adoration.
Your Mom was and was always so very beautiful, with a kind and loving smile that filled me with an inexplicable warmth.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Condolence: At this time when we are all feeling a sense of loss, I'd like to address a few comments and observations specifically to Kara and Kris. Your Mom's passing struck me on a very personal level, because your Mom and I were very much two peas in a pod. If I am considered the family comic laureate, Betty was my dependable laugh track. I could always rely on your Mom to react with a huge guffaw to even my lousiest jokes. This in turn made me feel incredibly good, that I had the power to brighten someone's day. This is what made your Mom so special. She had that natural gift of making the entire planet a better place by making us all feel upbeat with her positive energy. My two daughters always referred to your Mom as “Happy Betty,” and everyone lucky enough to know her will immediately know why. To borrow from an old TV show's theme song, “she could turn the world on with her smile, could take a nothing day and suddenly make it all seem worthwhile.” And she didn't have to throw her hat in the air to make her point. Even the few times something was not of her liking, the strongest cuss word I ever heard her say was....”JEEEZ!” If this was your Mom's strongest negative reaction, then her positive outlook is one that we can all only hope to achieve. With Betty gone, the pea pod is emptier and I feel a huge sense of loss and frustration...JEEEZ!

Condolence: The Smith House was by far the most sought after place to go for lunch or after school. There was always someone walking by those glass sliding doors. And why wouldn't it be? Mrs. Smith would invite everyone in, and she had the best stocked fridge in the neighbourhood. I remember always wanting to make pretzels from scratch, which was not only time consuming, but so messy. And she always agreed. With a smile on her face, which she always wore. She was even smiling fixing us all breakfast after Prom!
Mrs. Smith knew everyone too, and always stopped to talk (remember how she would jingle her keys as a sign we had to go?). And she videotaped everything, so now I have evidence of the worst dancing possible for a grade 8 graduation.
Thank you Mrs. Smith for bringing so much joy into my childhood, and many others.
Love Sarah
