ERNEST “ERNIE” WHITNEY (1924 – 2017)
Peacefully, at the Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital on Sunday, April 23, 2017, Ernest “Ernie” Whitney, of Port Burwell and formerly of Timmins, passed away at the age of 93 years. Predeceased by his first wife Mary Margaret McLennan. Beloved husband and best friend of Anita. Loving father of Jean Leveille, Peggy Scott, Christine Whitney, Kathy Breen (Randy), Terry Butterworth (Barb), Bill Butterworth, Sharon Butterworth (Jim) and Dan Butterworth (Dolorese). Proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Hazel Grant (Marvin), Christine Skop (Richard), Carrie Hoover (Bill), Vernon Whitney (Peggy) and Vera Herrington. Ernie is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Alice Craig. Ernie was a World War II Veteran, a member of the Port Burwell Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A Royal Canadian Legion Memorial Service will be held at 6:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life for Ernie will be held at the Port Burwell Legion, 40 Wellington Street, Port Burwell (519-874-4308) on Friday, April 28, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the Port Burwell Legion or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation would be appreciated by the Whitney family.
