Peacefully, with her family at her side, Hazel entered into the loving arms of our Lord on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at the age of 91 years. Daughter of the late Andrew Hutcheson and Martha Amelia (Millie) (Knott) and loving mother to Deborah (Robert) Prouse, Janet (Doug) Beattie and Alanna (Larry) Smith. Cherished grandmother and great-grandmother of Jaime (Michael) Bilger and their children Aidan and Avery, Scott (Susie) Beattie and their children Owen, Emmett and Ryan, Darryl (Crystal) Beattie and their children Braiden and Peyton, Joel (Jodi) Prouse and their children Maci and Mack, Zachary Smith (Morgann Rymal) and Mallory Smith (Craig Robb). Hazel also leaves behind her dear brother Donovan (Airabella) Hutcheson, step-daughters Carol (Bob) Carter and their children Cathy (Phil) Poole and Nancy (Tim) Barnes and their families, Elizabeth (Ted) Gould and their children Scott (Debbie) Gould, Shawn Gould, Graham (Ruth) Gould and Victoria (Jackie) Gould and their families. Hazel will be fondly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her first husband John R. Warren (1967) and her second husband Howard W. Riley (1994). Also predeceased by her beloved sister Eva Purtill and step-granddaughter Anne-Louise Gould. Hazel was a dedicated teacher for 36 years beginning in 1943 in a one room schoolhouse. She left teaching for seven years to have a family, returning in 1957 as principal at Mount Elgin. Her final 20 years were spent at Maple Lane and Rolph Street Public Schools where she retired. Friends and relatives will be received at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg (519-842-5221) on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service for Hazel will be held in Ostrander’s Chapel on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Pat Cook officiating followed by fellowship and refreshments at Avondale United Church. Private interment will take place at the Ingersoll Rural Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, St. Paul’s United Church or the charity of your choice through Ostrander’s Funeral Home.
