Obituary for Bruce Roberts Gibson

Bruce Roberts Gibson
It is with great sadness for us, but overwhelming joy for him, that we share the news of the passing of Bruce Roberts Gibson, 77. He went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on May 27, 2016 as the early morning sun rose to greet the day. He was met in Heaven by his parents, Stanley Lewin Gibson and Florence( Roberts) Gibson and his cousin, Lois Coon. Bruce was the beloved husband and best friend of Janice (Westlake) Gibson for 52 years and the cherished father of Judi (Mark) Poss, Debbie Gibson and Donna (Len) Bobrownik. He was the proud and dedicated Papa of Tyler, Logan, Cameron and Madison. He loved his cousin Betty Kurhanowicz and his sister in law, Barbara (Joe) Fielding. Many nieces, nephews and cousins feel his loss deeply and were loved unconditionally by him.
Bruce was deeply involved in several areas throughout his life. He was dedicated to his favourite sport, rowing. As a teenager, he rowed high school and club and earned several medals. He then became a successful coach and as time passed, Bruce became involved in the administration aspect of the sport, refereeing and eventually becoming president of Row Ontario. Bruce was the founder of the Tillsonburg Rowing Club and was key in establishing the Silver Lake Rowing Club.
Bruce loved his community and worked hard as a director on the Board at the Children’s Aid Society; was part of the Economic Development Committee and was devoted to the Rotary Phone Check program.
Bruce also worked at TRW for 35 years.
Serving God was so important to Bruce. The Alpha Program ran at First Baptist Church Tillsonburg under his leadership. He was Chair of the Deacons at FBC and was involved in several areas of the church.
Bruce is at peace now. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. His humour and faith were apparent throughout. He left a legacy of kindness, compassion and integrity. His love for his family will never cease and will be seen in every sunrise. His love for the Lord shone in all he did and brought many souls to Jesus. We are so thankful for his life, now eternal.
